Savoury Rice / Gesmoorde Rys

Delicious with fish or mince frikkadels.


  • 45 ml (3 T) oil

  • 1 onion, thinly sliced

  • 1/2 green pepper, thinly sliced

  • 1 chilli, thinly sliced

  • 5 ml (1 t) chopped garlic

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • 15 ml (1 T) pickle masala

  • 700 ml (3 C) cooked white basmati rice


  • Heat the oil in a large pan and fry the onion, green pepper, chilli and garlic on medium heat to high heat until golden brown.
  • Next, add the salt, pepper, pickle masala and 30 ml (2 T) water and fry for 1 minute.
  • Add the rice and mix well, then simmer on low heat for 5 minutes.
  • Serve piping hot.
